VISION &
PRIORITIES
I'm focused on PUEBLO first! My philosophy is simple - Listen to Pueblo. "I believe that effective representation doesn't start in Denver—it starts here at home, at your kitchen tables and in our local businesses. That is why I am officially launching my District 3 Listening Tour.
As I meet with people throughout the district, my goal is to listen more than I speak. I am meeting with neighbors, small business owners, and community leaders to ensure that my full legislative platform is built on the real-world experiences of the people I intend to serve. While I am working with you to develop a comprehensive plan for our future, my immediate focus is dedicated to the three most critical challenges facing Pueblo today."
01
ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT
Pueblo’s economy is the backbone of Southern Colorado. My experience with the El Pomar Foundation and the White House Office of Legislative Affairs has shown me how to leverage resources and policy to drive growth. I am committed to cutting red tape for our small businesses and ensuring District 3 is a hub for high-paying jobs and sustainable investment.
02
PUBLIC SAFETY
With my extensive background in the criminal justice system—from serving as a Judicial Law Clerk to my work in the Pueblo Veteran’s Treatment Court—I know how to make our community safer. I am focused on creating a system that prioritizes victim safety, supports our law enforcement, and uses proven methods to reduce recidivism. No one in this race understands the mechanics of public safety better than I do, and I am ready to put that expertise to work for you.
03
Homelessness
"Homelessness is a complex issue that impacts our businesses, our parks, and our sense of security. It requires a leader who understands both the legal and human service sides of the equation. I am focused on regional strategies that move people off the streets and into paths of stability, ensuring our public spaces remain safe and vibrant for everyone."

MEET AARON
A Lifetime of Service. A Career in Justice. A Vision for a Safer Pueblo.
Hi, I'm Aaron -- a 4th generation Puebloan. A graduate of Central, I grew up attending Pueblo area schools and enjoying Pueblo's rich heritage. I am not only a brain cancer survivor but a cancer warrior. Cancer taught me reslience, gratitude, and what it means to truly fight for your life! Cancer showed me the relentless power of never-ending love, faith, family, friends and my Pueblo community.
I am married to my best friend and the person who keeps me grounded, Rochelle and am a devoted father to our son. Like most of us, I am a proud son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, Godfather and friend! Bonus - I'm also the dog-dad of two - so don't hesitate to come say hello at the dog park!
I am a dedicated attorney, community leader, and an advocate for those who need an advocate most.
I am rooted in Pueblo, shaped by a lifetime of service to our community.
I am running for State Senate to bring steady, people-first leadership to the Capitol and continue fighting for the lives of working families across our community. I am Pueblo Proud and look forward to being elected your champion and advocate.
Expertise You Can Trust to Improve Public Safety
I know our criminal justice system better than any of my opponents. My perspective isn't based on theory; it's based on years of practice in the 10th Judicial District and across Colorado.
-
As a owner and partner at the Garcia Gutierrez Law Group and a former public defender, I have seen exactly where our legal system succeeds and where it fails the people it is meant to protect.
-
Supporting Our Veterans: One of the honors of my career was serving those in need within the Pueblo Veteran’s Treatment Court. I understand how to balance firm accountability with the specialized support needed to reduce recidivism and keep our streets safe.
-
Judicial Insight: Serving as a Law Clerk for the Water Division of the 10th Judicial District gave me a "behind-the-bench" view of how judicial rulings are drafted and how state law impacts our local resources.
Proven Leadership from Pueblo to the White House
My experience extends from our local neighborhoods to the highest levels of national policy. I know how to navigate the halls of power to bring results back home to Pueblo.
-
National Policy Experience: As a Public Policy Fellow in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs during the Obama Administration, I worked directly with U.S. Senators and Representatives to move critical initiatives forward.
-
Fighting for Southern Colorado: Working in the office of Congressman John Salazar, I focused on regional issues and policy initiatives that matter most to our part of the state.
-
Effective Grantmaking: During my time as an El Pomar Foundation Fellow, I helped oversee and recommend more than $150,000 in grant requests, ensuring that community organizations had the funding to make a real difference.
Deeply Rooted in District 3
For me, Pueblo is more than just a place on a map—it is my home. My commitment to this community is reflected in my years of board service and advocacy:
-
Former Board Member, Boys & Girls Club of Pueblo County.
-
Board Member & Vice President, Homes for Senior Citizen Inc.
-
Former Board Member, Rosemount Museum.
-
Former Board Member, Pueblo African American Concern Organization (PAACO)
-
Former Board Member, Pueblo Central High School Foundation.
-
Former Commissioner, Pueblo Human Relations Commission and Pueblo Sister Cities Commission.
-
Volunteer, Pueblo Hispanic Education Foundation, where I helped raise vital scholarship funds for our students.
Education and Professional Values
I am a proud graduate of Colorado College, where I received a full ride scholarship and graduated with a degree in International Political Economy and Spanish. I earned my Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School.
My career has been defined by standing up for people who need a champion. I’m running for State Senate to bring that same fighting spirit to Denver on behalf of every family in District 3.
"My life has been dedicated to this community. I believe the best way to predict Pueblo's future is to roll up our sleeves and create it together, rooted in the values we’ve shared for generations.
